            <strong>Why is pure soy wax better than other candle waxes?</strong>
    
    <p>Pure soy wax is derived from soybeans which are a natural, renewable source grown in many regions by organic farmers.
        Pure soy wax provides a cleaner burn as it doesn’t contain paraffin waxes which are extracts of petroleum and are derived from petrochemicals.</p>

    <p>Pure essential oils provide you with a clean, natural aroma that elicits a relaxation response as they contain natural elements that trigger the release of endorphins in the brain.
        This in turn causes a positive emotional response which calms your nervous system and relaxes your senses to keep you in good health.</p>
    
    <p>Fragrance scents are manufactured aromas, that is they have been chemically altered from their original plant extracts to create scents in the way perfume is created.
        If you don’t suffer allergic reactions to synthetic fragrances then they are often the selected choice as these aromas will also trigger a positive emotional reaction.</p>
    
    <p>Perhaps it’s an association to a happy memory of a place or of a loved one, such as smelling flowers in Grandma’s garden or enjoying the aroma of baking cookies on a relaxing weekend.

    <div class="flex flex-col gap-y-2"><strong>What is phthalate-free fragrance?</strong>
    
    <p>To begin with phthalates are esters of phthalic acid, more commonly used to make regular plastic products more flexible. However, in reference to candles, phthalate may be used within fragrance oils to help extend the aromatic strength of the candle by acting as a binding agent.</p>
    
    <p>Extensive contact with phthalates can trigger the following health concerns such as asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, obesity, type II diabetes, neurodevelopmental issues, autism, and reproductive development issues. Simple low exposure to phthalates will most likely not cause harm, but continued and high exposure to these chemicals is what is concerning. Phthalates come in many different forms, and although not all have been tested, regular exposure to phthalates are found to be harmful.</p>
    
    <p>This why <strong>Byron Bay Candles chooses to use phthalate-free fragrances</strong> for all our aromas. While our fragrance range is phthalate-free these aromas are still synthetically manufactured. So if you are sensitive to inhaling perfume we suggest opting for  our pure essential oils scents that are 100% plant based.</p>

    <div class="flex flex-col gap-y-2"><strong>Are the candle wicks pure cotton and why do they occasionally result in a mushroom effect?</strong>
    
    <p>We only use pure cotton wicks which are free of heavy metals such as lead and are made from all-natural, cotton fibres to ensure a clean burn.
        The aim is to keep your wick trimmed and still as a direct draft will cause it to smoke unnecessarily.</p>
    
    <p>If you’ve ever experienced a mushroom effect on the end of your wick after burning then this is a result of the wick absorbing more wax than it can burn and often happens when the wick is to large.</p>
    
    <p>To prevent mushrooming, simply trim your wick prior to every burn (5-6mm). We find the best practice is to pull off the top of the wick where it naturally breaks (when the wick is cold of course).</p></div>
    
    <div class="flex flex-col gap-y-2"><strong>Are candle refills available for all candles in our range?</strong>
    
    <p>In short the answer is ‘No’.
        Candle refills fit inside our 50 hour glass candle jars.
        They are available in all the scents in our range except for the ‘Sunset Ambience’.</p>
    
    <p>Sunset Ambience is an outdoor, pure essential oils blend that is infused with citronella to deter biting insects from hanging around.
        We have plans to pour this blend in the same style jar as our gift boxed, timber lid range but at present it is poured into a glass lid style jar which don’t fit the candle refills.</p></div>
    
        <div class="flex flex-col gap-y-2"><strong>Are the soy tea-lights scented?</strong>
    
    <p>No the soy tea-lights are made with unscented pure soy wax.
        Pure soy wax creates a melt pool when melted so must be contained in a holder. At this time we have them in a poly carbonate plastic but we are in the process of experimenting with alternative materials to find a more eco-friendly alternative.</p></div>
    
        <div class="flex flex-col gap-y-2"><strong>Why should I avoid palm oil?</strong>
    
    <p>If you are unfamiliar with palm oil then there’s good reason to avoid this as up to 300 football fields of natural forests in Africa are cleared every hour to make room for palm plantations. As a result the orangutan population has decreased in the last 10 years due to the habitat loss from forest clearing for palm plantations.</p>
    
    <p>Palm oil can be used by some candle manufacturers as an enhancer. Please note that at Byron Bay Candles we promote ‘pure’ soy wax in our manufacturing processes as we don’t use any enhancers and additives to artificially extend the throw of the candle which can have harmful effects on your health.</p></div>

 	<li>Over time each reed stick draws the oils up through the stick and naturally releases the aroma into the air.</li>
 	<li>Each scent is lovingly combined to lift your emotional state of mind and create a sense of harmony in your environment home and workplace.</li>
 	<li>NB: oils may react to painted surfaces so always place your diffuser on a coaster to prevent damage from accidental spillages.</li>
