At Byron Bay Candles, we choose to use natural soy wax because it’s a renewable, plant-based alternative to traditional paraffin wax.
Soy wax is derived from soybeans and is valued for its clean-burning qualities and lower environmental impact. It also allows fragrances to be released gently and consistently, helping create a beautiful scent experience throughout your home.
One of the reasons we work with pure soy wax is its lower melting point compared to many other candle waxes. This allows us to blend and pour fragrances at lower temperatures, which is particularly important when working with the 100% pure essential oils used in many of our scent profiles. Lower processing temperatures help preserve the delicate aromatic qualities of essential oils, allowing their natural character to shine through in the finished candle.
Our soy wax is:

> Vegan-friendly and not tested on animals
We carefully select the ingredients used in every Byron Bay Candles product to reflect our commitment to quality, craftsmanship and conscious living. The result is a premium candle designed to deliver a beautifully balanced experience while supporting a more conscious approach to home scenting.
Our candles are made using a premium soy wax derived from soybean oil. While the wax we use is not certified GMO-free, the manufacturing process involves extensive refining and purification.
As a result, the finished wax does not contain detectable GMO DNA or protein. However, because the raw soybeans may be sourced from regions where genetically modified crops are grown, we do not market or certify our wax as non-GMO.

Pure essential oils and fragrance oils both create beautiful scent experiences, but they differ in how they are made.
Pure essential oils are naturally extracted from plants, flowers, fruits, woods and herbs. Each oil carries its own unique aromatic profile, capturing the natural character of the source material. Many people choose essential oils for their authentic, nature-inspired aromas.
Fragrance oils are carefully blended scent compositions that may combine natural extracts and other aroma ingredients to create a wider variety of fragrances. This allows for scent profiles that cannot be achieved using essential oils alone, such as ocean-inspired, dessert-inspired or complex perfume-style fragrances.
Whether you prefer essential oils or fragrance oils often comes down to personal preference. Some people enjoy the natural simplicity of essential oils, while others love the creativity and variety that fragrance blends can offer.
If you’re sensitive to strong fragrances, many of our customers find that our essential oil collection offers a gentler scent experience. Because fragrance preferences are highly personal, we recommend ordering our free scent tester cards before purchasing so you can experience the aromas for yourself and find the scents that resonate most with you.

A stimulating and energizing blend of pure essential oils, this blend will lift your mood and the mood of those around you.
A great one to have burning when visitors are coming over or you’re practicing yoga or fitness training.With the invigorating freshness of lemongrass, peppermint and grapefruit and the rejuvenating properties of clary sage, bergamot and aniseed it makes for the perfect pick me up.

Festivity –
Is one of our team’s favourites. With a beautiful pure essential oils blend of cinnamon and sweet orange that is lovingly blended to invoke a mood for celebration.
Its warming qualities when inhaled will uplift and revive you, yet calm and comfort you at the same time.
Festivity is one of our seasonal scents that is available to order from October through to January.
Harmony –
This Harmony Aromatherapy Candle is a synergy of pure essential oils with sweet orange, ylang ylang and rose geranium for a blend to balance and sooth your emotions and invoke emotions of love.
A perfect combination to boost a negative mood. And a refreshing blend to re-energise and uplift the mind.

Sunset Ambience –
is a 100% pure essential oil blend that has been lovingly blended in to a candle to double as a natural insect repellent.
Infused with citronella, lavender & lemon scented eucalyptus so you can enjoy a wonderful natural aroma inside or outside your home and keep those biting nasties away at the same time.
Phthalates are a group of compounds that have traditionally been used in a variety of consumer products.
In some fragrance formulations, they may be used to help stabilise scents and prolong fragrance performance.
At Byron Bay Candles, all of our fragrance oils are phthalate-free. We carefully select fragrance ingredients that align with our commitment to quality, conscious craftsmanship and creating a beautiful home fragrance experience.
Our phthalate-free fragrances allow us to offer a diverse range of scents while maintaining the high ingredient standards our customers expect. From fresh and uplifting aromas to rich and luxurious blends, each fragrance is chosen for both its character and performance.
While our fragrance collection is phthalate-free, these scents are still professionally crafted fragrance blends. If you prefer a completely plant-based aroma or are sensitive to perfume-style fragrances, you may wish to explore our 100% pure essential oil collection instead.

We only use pure cotton wicks which are free of heavy metals such as lead and are made from all-natural, cotton fibres to ensure a clean burn.
The aim is to keep your wick trimmed and still as a direct draft will cause it to smoke unnecessarily.
If you’ve ever experienced a mushroom effect on the end of your wick after burning then this is a result of the wick absorbing more wax than it can burn and often happens when the wick is to large.
To prevent mushrooming, simply trim your wick prior to every burn (5-6mm). We find the best practice is to pull off the top of the wick where it naturally breaks (when the wick is cold of course).
Candle refills fit inside our large 50 hour glass candle jars.
They are available in all the scents in our range.
Candle refills are NOT available for 30 hour medium size candle jars.

No the soy tea-lights are made with unscented pure soy wax.
Pure soy wax creates a melt pool when melted so must be contained in a holder. At this time we have them in a poly carbonate plastic holder which can be placed in your council recylcing bin.
Alternatively, if you are happy to remove the used wick and wipe each holder clean to send back to us in batchs of 100/150 quantities we can refill them for your next order.
If you are unfamiliar with palm oil then there’s good reason to avoid this as up to 300 football fields of natural forests in Africa are cleared every hour to make room for palm plantations. As a result the orangutan population has decreased in the last 10 years due to the habitat loss from forest clearing for palm plantations.
Palm oil can be used by some candle manufacturers as an enhancer. Please note that at Byron Bay Candles we promote ‘pure’ soy wax in our manufacturing processes as we don’t use any enhancers and additives to artificially extend the throw of the candle which can have harmful effects on your health.
The key is find a scent that resonates with you so you feel relaxed, creative, happy, alert, joyful, loving, kind, calm and considerate.

We do ship outside of Australia to the following countries via Australia Post. Postage is calculated at cost when you enter the shipping address on the check-out page.

Due to tariff compliance we are currently not able send to the United State (US).
All orders are processed within 24 to 48 hours of receiving your order (excluding weekends and public holidays).
In the event that an item is in production it may take an extra day to ship in which case you will be notified of any delays.

This of course depends on the chosen carrier’s transit times. We will provide you with a tracking number via email on completion of your order and we will let you know if your order has been sent with Aramex Freight, Star Track Freight or Australia Post.

- Stockists – your orders are shipped with Aramex or Star Track Freight and you will be notified of your tracking number via email when your order is ready to send.
Every care is taken when packing your order for delivery. If for some reason your purchase is damaged in transit we will provide you with a replacement.
Please send us a photo of the damaged goods and its packaging within 48 hours of you receiving them.
On every product page there is comments box above the ‘add to cart’ button.
- In the comments box enter the message you would like written on the gift card that will be attached to the gift wrapped item.
- Add the item to the cart and redirect to the check-out page. On this page click the check-box to enter the recipients ‘shipping address’ and fill in the details.
- At the bottom of the shipping address is another comments box. In this area enter the date you would the parcel to be sent with Australia Post (keeping in mind any delivery delays Australia Post may be experiencing).
- Your specified shipping date will be noted on receipt of your order and sent accordingly.
Tunneling will occur when you have not left the flame of your candle burning long enough to create a melt pool that reaches the edge of the jar (this can take 3-4 hours).
If this occurs do not trim your wick but leave it longer to create a larger flame on your next burn to allow the wax pool to reach the edge of the jar.
Alternatively, molten wax is soft so when warm you can use a blunt object to push the wax edge in to the pool to melt it (also try a hair-dryer or tip the jar on it’s side towards the side of jar with the excess wax that requires melting. Keep moving the jar around to soften this wax and then push down in to the melt pool.)
After the next burn be sure to trim your wick to 8 to 10mm.

We’re often asked whether our candles are safe to use around pets.
At Byron Bay Candles, we use natural soy wax and carefully selected fragrance and essential oil blends to create a beautiful home scent experience.
Our candles are designed for normal household use and, when used as directed in a well-ventilated space, many pet owners enjoy them in their homes.
As pet lovers ourselves, we understand the importance of choosing products thoughtfully.
Our blue heeler dog accompanies us to the factory every day and is regularly around the aromas used during our candle-making process.
He happily waits by the door each morning to come to work and remains calm and relaxed throughout the day, even when we are pouring candles and testing new scents.
That said, every animal is different. If your pet has known sensitivities, respiratory conditions, or if you have any concerns about specific ingredients, we recommend consulting your veterinarian for personalised advice.
